The NHS estimates that in the UK, unexplained infertility accounts for around 1 in 4 cases of couples being unable to conceive - that's when both partners have been examined and no cause can be identified for the infertility in either of them. It’s when a woman’s ovaries stop working properly and they aren’t able to consistently release eggs or make the hormones estrogen and progesterone. It affects around 4% of women under the age of 40.
